Pauline Lectures at Prerana (MSJ)

The Pauline Year proclaimed by Pope Benedict XVI will end on 29 June 2009. This year we are also celebrating the Golden Jubilee year of Mount St Joseph. To mark this 2-fold occasion we had organized a series of 16 talks on Pauline themes by experts in the field, Frs Joseph Lobo SJ and Ralph da Costa SJ, at Prerana (Mount St Joseph) from 5.30 pm till 7.15 pm every Wednesday and Saturday in the months of January and February 2009. Fr Joseph’s talks were in the month of January and Fr Ralph’s in February. Many religious, except the novices, of the Bannerughatta CRI zone attended the talks regularly in large numbers. Most of them appreciated the talks which were  thought-provoking, inspiring and full of insights. Fr Ralph dealt with the following Pauline themes in his talks (Pauline understanding and practice of prayer; Life in the Spirit; New creation in Christ; Pauline understanding of being Church; Gifts of the Spirit; Challenges of the Pauline understanding of Resurrection; Implications of Paul's disagreement with Peter at Antioch for our times; "Stern but gentle" - Pauline leadership and its implication for us today and Paul's Christ-centeredness: a discussion on its implications for a multi-religious context.)

Lectures on Pauline Themes at Prerana,MSJ

The Pauline Year proclaimed by Pope Benedict XVI will end on 29 June 2009. This year we are also celebrating the Golden Jubilee year of Mount St Joseph. To mark this 2-fold occasion we have organized a series of 16 talks on Pauline themes by experts in the field, Frs Joseph Lobo SJ and Ralph da Costa SJ, at Prerana (Mount St Joseph) from 5.30 pm till 7.15 pm every Wednesday and Saturday in the months of January and February 2009. Most of them appreciated the talks which were thought-provoking, inspiring and full of insights. Fr Joseph Lobo is a Jesuit priest of the Karnataka Province. He is the director of the Karnataka Jesuit Regional Theologate at Jnana-Jyothi, Anekal-Bangalore where he teaches Systematic Theology. He dealt with the following Pauline themes in his talks: Knowing and proclaiming Christ and Him Crucified (1 Cor 2,1-5); Boasting in one’s weakness: Three times I prayed; but He said to me “my grace is enough for you” (2 Cor 11,16-12,10); Pauline understanding of “Life in Christ” and its consequences; Paul’s recommendations on the celebration of the Eucharist (1 Cor 11,17-34); Fighting the wrong enemy; The awareness of conflict of the two laws at work: I am a wretched man, who will rescue me? (Rom 7,21-24); Being all things to all men: A mission paradigm for today - Paul’s evangelistic and exemplary adaptability (1 Cor 9,19-23); and Who can separate us from the love of God? Young Priests’ Gathering at Prerana(MSJ)

The hot blood of the Karnataka Jesuit Province came together for sharing and reflection on 2nd and 3rd of August at Prerana (Ignatian Spirituality Centre). The gathering began with a talk by Fr Freddie D’Silva on Priestly Mission in the Society of Jesus which led us into reflection and group sharing on the joys and challenges of a young priest in modern world. In the afternoon, we had a sharing by Dr Rajaram who spoke to us about his impression about the Jesuits which made us realize that we need to be authentic to our Call. On the 3rd, Fr William Sequeira enlightened us on Psycho-Spiritual Integration through an interactive session. No doubt the need of the hour is to be integrated Jesuits. Then our Provincial, Fr Vijay Prabhu, in his address gave us some guidelines so that we may be effective and efficient in our ministries. He also shared the dreams and challenges of the Province with the young priests. Many felt that it is worth coming together for sharing and reflection & the credit goes to Fr Melwyn Mendonca who meticulously planned out every detail of the programme. All the participants thanked the community of Mount St Joseph and the members of Prerana for the warmth and hospitality.

Birth of 'Prerana'

MSJ has given birth to a new child! Prerana- a centre of inspiration! It is indeed a miracle that in a short period of time, such a magnificient building could come up! The hard labour of Fr. Francis has borne fruit. Indeed for the last couple of days, he knew not what rest or sleep meant.
The ceremony of blessing started at 4.30 pm. Fr. Vijay, the Provincial of Karnataka welcomed the people. Fr. Lisbert, the Regional Assistant for South Asia, inaugurated the building. Later Fr. Lisbert led a short prayer service to bless the house. He also honoured the people who tirelessly worked to put up this centre. The presence of GC delegates and JCSA members was indeed a source of joy and blessing to MSJ community.
