When my way groweth drear...

Jesuits may not get tired but they may get retired! When you board a bus, seeing you struggling, a sitting passenger immediately gets up and offers you a seat or when you feel-‘spirit is willing but bones are weak’, these could be signs that you are nearing the age of retirement. Do not worry; MSJ is all getting ready to make the evening of your life happier. The ground floor of Novitiate wing is undergoing a sea change to make comfortable the life of aged Jesuits. 11 spacious rooms, a well equipped infirmary, a beautiful chapel, a comfortable TV room and a dining room will give a new look to the existing structure. The construction is moving at a rapid speed under the close supervision of Fr. Dion who is assisted by Sch. John Paul. Any name for the new house?

Vocation Camp at MSJ

Fr. Balaraj with his big fishing net and Sch. Shantharaj with fishing rod and two enthusiastic would-be novices from Navasadhana with huge baskets descended on Mount St. Joseph for their fishing expedition. It was a vocation camp arranged for the boys of neighbouring parishes at MSJ. Twenty-four energetic, lively boys attended this camp. One could see in their faces eagerness to know about religious life and in particular Jesuit way of life. It was a well arranged one-day programme in which Sch. Marcel, Shantharj, Fr. Manoj and Fr. Balaraj provided a good vision for these young people. Fr. Balaraj is deeply satisfied at the response and the participation. Novices provided a good accompaniment for these boys.

Fr. Eugene in the company of Fr. General

Fr General- Fr Adolfo Nicholas is a simple, ever smiling, unassuming yet very intelligent person. When I met him first I was a bit taken aback by his simplicity. He said, "Welcome and I need your prayers and let us work together.' Suddenly you bump into a smiling person who is chatting with a Jesuit who stays in the infirmary, or you find him sitting in the infirmary itself swallowing the bitter medicines, don't be surprised. He is a person all over... doing all types of work and has become an ideal of simplicity of a Jesuit. He is eloquent in the many languages he speaks and his sermons are nice, spiritual, with proper application to today's world. He is above all, a spiritual person, a man of God and a man of the Society. (Eugene shares his personal impression of Fr. Nico)

Community Day Out

The eagerly awaited day finally came on 5th February. The whole MSJ community went out for a day to the nearby Sunny Resorts for picnicking . The place was lovely and magnificent. One could really experience the touch of nature’s beauty and grandeur in those palm trees, green lawns and water pools. The novices wasted no time to explore the breadth and the length of the resort. No sooner than they had reached, they put on their shorts and baniyans and jumped into the swimming pool and played like dolphins. They played and played till Sch. Marcel had to tell, ‘Come out guys, let’s get ready for meals”. Fr. Arok had worked out a superb picnic menu and all were really full after a heavy meal. The crazy games followed soon after the lunch. One could envy the youthfulness of senior community members. An interesting volley ball match too kept up the vigour of the picnic. The novices could not resist the temptation of jumping into the pool again. When the green signal was given they simply jumped like professional divers. When the sun was slowly setting, it was a time to wind up. Thanking the owner profusely for his generosity, all took their steps towards Mount. For more images, click on the photo below.

The entire program was facilitated by Frs. Freddie, Willie and Dion. Freddie put the group in a right perspective, reflecting on the passage “Journey to Emmaus”, from which he culled out 7 steps needed to accompany a directee. Dion explored the whole area of Psycho-sexuality affecting the people particularly dealing with the topic “Intimacy”. Willie touched upon the key areas like Affectivity, Emotional Maturity and Healthy Personality. The ample time was provided for group discussion and interaction. The concluding session was the panel discussion in which, key issues affecting the Spiritual Direction were dealt with. At the end of the day, everybody felt deeply satisfied. The entire place was well arranged by the able Administrator Sch. Melvin.
